Vietnam has been listed as one of the 30 best places to travel alone by US News.

The site selected the most solo-friendly locations around the world, with easy transport, lots of activities, and relatively safe environments for those considering the next getaway for exploring alone.

Vietnam is ideal for solo travelers, with friendly people and outstanding cuisine, according to the site. Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and its museums, temples, pagodas and parks can be all be reached by foot, bus or train.

It recommended solo travelers meet up with an English-speaking guide to help them get their bearings and make plans.

It also suggested trying popular dishes like “pho” (rice noodle soup with beef or chicken), “bun cha” (grilled pork in a soup with rice vermicelli), and “nem” (fried spring rolls).

Other destinations on the list were Beaver Creek, New York, California, Texas, and San Francisco in the US, Grand Cayman (UK), Paris, Rome and Tuscany, Seville (Spain), Sydney, Morocco, Singapore, and New Zealand, among others.

TripAdvisor readers earlier this year ranked Vietnam as one of the 10 best places to go in the world.

In the first half of this year the country welcomed nearly 7.9 million foreign visitors, a 27 per cent increase over the same period last year, including 3 million in Hanoi and 3.8 million in Ho Chi Minh City, up 26 and 26.5 per cent, respectively, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism. The total number of foreign visitors last year was nearly 13 million, a year-on-year rise of nearly 30 per cent.
