The key point of Industry 4.0 is artificial intelligence and presents major opportunities, but if Vietnam does not stay abreast of developments it will continue to be left behind, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung told a press conference announcing the Program of Connecting Vietnam Innovation Network 2018, to be held from August 18 to 24 in Hanoi.
The program is an initiative of the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) to gather and mobilize the maximum resources of gray matter, especially from Vietnamese experts who are well trained and working in countries with developed science and technology foundations.
These experts will be a crucial resource to ensure the success of the implementation of the strategy for Industry 4.0 and through that bring about technological changes in Vietnam, allowing the country to transform vigorously.
The program targets sharing the vision and strategic views of leaders of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the State, and the government on opportunities to access and utilize current science and technology achievements in key sectors and fields, meeting the goal of rapid and sustainable socioeconomic development in the future and attracting the attention and contribution of overseas Vietnamese intellectuals who are studying and working in leading sectors and fields of science and technology to directly participate, right from the beginning, in the deployment of science and technology development strategies in Vietnam.
The program will open up opportunities to participate directly in major science and technology projects and activities in Vietnam and provide the ability to connect with authorities, intellectuals, and the business community.
Minister Dung revealed that 100 young Vietnamese who are active in the field of science and technology abroad will be present in Vietnam to participate in the program. “The gathering of talented Vietnamese people in the field of science and technology in order to serve and contribute to the country is always a focus of the Party and the government,” he added. “This is aimed at attracting talent and improving the quality of Vietnam’s human resources in the future in the context of limited ability and adaptability.”
According to Minister Dung, MPI is developing a national strategy on Industry 4.0 and it is expected to report to the Prime Minister by the end of the year. It will also develop a scheme to set up a “National Innovation Center” and build a human resources network to implement the National Strategy for 4.0.
